Origins
"To trace the origin of Lydia, one would have to say that it was born out of intercession for the nations of the world, and one in particular; the nation of New Zealand—two small islands at the furthermost part of the earth." Shelagh McAlpine
The roots of the ministry were established during the 1960's in Auckland, New Zealand. It was born out of a season of committed prayer with fasting for revival in the church and nation of New Zealand by Shelagh McAlpine and her husband, Campbell. Due to Campbell's travel, he was not always available for prayer. During the "Tell New Zealand Crusade," the Lord gave Shelagh another prayer partner that had a heart to pray for New Zealand and the nations of the world. That prayer partner was Joy Dawson.
Founded in England in March 1970 by Shelagh McAlpine, Lydia Fellowship International commenced with a few women meeting together in a home.
